Summer 2020

For Canadians and everyone else in the Northern Hemisphere, Summer 2020 began on Saturday, June 20, 2020. Many people will embrace the warmer weather by enjoying the outdoors more, and doing plenty of other activities. With this in mind, it made me curious: which fashion related items are selling the most for women during this time? For this write-up, I will be taking a look at the bestsellers, what customers said about them, and offer my additional commentary.

Also, do bare in mind that because the bestsellers list does change rather frequently, even so much within an hour, this is not a Top 10 list. The order is random. For men, see this write-up instead.

What Reviewers Say

Most of the satisfied customers say that they love the looks, and price point of these sunglasses. Some also pointed out that the lightweight makes them comfortable, adding credibility to the product’s description.

On the negative end of the spectrum, the overwhelming majority of customers that had a negative experience have two things in common: too small, cheap quality.

Overall, 65% of shoppers gave the Small SOJOS Sunglasses a 5 star rating, while 14% gave it a 4 star, making the product very good for the most part.

Millennium Creek’s Words

I do not own a pair of these sunglasses, nor do I personally plan on purchasing them. Their small, compact size would result in sinus discomfort on my face. Nevertheless, I do think they look stylish, and would not have a problem recommending you buying them. For women who are indecisive about which colour to get, I say you go with either C4 Gold Frame/Blue Mirrored Lens or C2 Gold Frame/Pink Mirrored Lens.

Hanes Women’s Cozy Seamless Wire-Free Bra

61cf4+PW2+L._AC_UL200_SR200,200_

I do not wear brassières, so I do not intricately understand the importance of a good brassière. However, using commonsense, I do know that anything that is too tight, made of rough material, or is painful, is obviously something that nobody would want to wear. These brassières tout themselves as being cozy, and wire-free. They are a top seller in Women’s Everyday Brassières. Are they really that good? They reviews say so.

Specifications

  • 91% Nylon, 9% Spandex
  • Pull-On closure
  • Hand Wash
  • 2.5cm high
  • 20.3cm wide
  • Pullover bra with wide straps and elasticized band

Colour Variants

What Reviewers Say

Most of the positive reviewers unsurprisingly praise the Hanes brassières for being comfortable, affordable, and not painful.

On the negative end of the spectrum, unhappy reviewers complained about the sizing being off, and that their brassières did not fit, when they expected it to.

Out of 4,547 customer ratings, 52% rated it 5 stars, while 16% rated it 4 stars. So while some of the reviews make it look as though the sizing is horribly inaccurate, most women seem happy with their purchase.

Millennium Creek’s Words

I think they look alright. Nothing dazzling, but not extremely cheap-looking either.

BETTE BOUTIK Women’s Tank Tops

What Reviewers Say

Despite being listed as a Best Seller in Women’s Plus Tanks & Camisonly 5 people have bothered to leave a review for this tank top. All of which are 5 stars ratings. People noted it being nice and soft, and say it is cute.

Millennium Creek’s Words

I love the nature theme of 1-Green and the sky-inspired colour of 3-Blue.

Hanes Women’s X-Temp V-Neck Tee

614VBJwz8TL._AC_SX679._SX._UX._SY._UY_

Colour Variants

What Reviewers Say

The happy reviewers love the Hanes V-neck shirt for its great quality, fitting their bodies well, and of course the affordable price tag.

On the negative end of the spectrum, unhappy reviewers said the material was cheap, too short, too small, colours were inaccurate, or that it lacks shape.

Out of 1,886+ customer ratings, Hanes V-neck shirts 55% rated it 5 stars, 19% rated it 4 stars. Based from this, most women are happy with their shirts.

Millennium Creek’s Words

While people have their opinions, I must say that it does seem strange to say that it lacks shape. I can clearly see the models’ shapes from the photos. Sure, it does not show it as much as something tighter would, but why would anyone expect that from a product like this? It is not intended to be a showy outfit. Now, what do I personally think of it? Nothing glamorous, but still reasonably good-looking. Perfect if you want something that is low key and comfortable.

TIJN Blue Light Blocking Glasses

41pYLFFao6L._AC_UX679_

What Reviewers Say

“lightweight, cute, not flimsy, excellent quality, loved it so much that I might buy all/more colours, no more headaches, these actually work” These are quotations of some of the things frequently mentioned by people that purchased these glasses.  In fact, people seem to be so proud of their purchase, that a number of them even uploaded images of themselves wearing it in the reviews. Is it all positive though?

On the negative end of the spectrum, people said they were reflective, blurry, easily scratched and damaged, fits poorly, or did not work as intended.

Out of 12,102+ customer ratings, 60% rated 5 stars, 17% rated 4 stars, 9% rated 3 stars, 6% 2 stars, and 8% 1 star.

Millennium Creek’s Words

One of the reviewers mentioned something extremely important:

“This was a waste of money. I still got headaches from the screen and I felt like the glasses made it worse. I felt that if i continued to use them, I would become dependent on them. I also don’t need glasses in the first place so I felt like it made my vision worse. They’re also kind of ill fitting and definitely not worth $25.” – Mallory Thompson

Therefore, when it comes onto products like this always consult a health professional before using them. This may seem like common sense, but sometimes — oftentimes, sheer popularity of a product drives people to buy it, without taking the proper precautions first.

OMSJ Women Shirts Sleeveless Summer Tunic Loose Fit Tank Tops

615fFpTcaIL._AC_SY741._SX._UX._SY._UY_

  • Cute, comfortable, and casual
  • Made of high quality cotton, durable enough for daily wearing
  • Great for leisure, vacation, beach, at home, or a barbecue
  • Hand wash cold, hang or line dry
  • Package: 1 X Women Sleeveless Tee

Colour Variants

What Reviewers Say

Satisfied customers frequently noted the high quality, comfort, and bold colours of the tank top.

On the negative end of the spectrum, people said their tank top arrived not as expected in the pictures, shrunk more than expected after a wash, or that is simply did not fit them properly.

Out of 304 customer ratings, 48% rate 5 stars, 21% rate 4 stars, 11% rate 3 stars, 6% rate 2 stars, and 14% rate 1 star. Based on this, most women are satisfied with this 8.

Millennium Creek’s Words

It clearly mentions that it is on the looser side, and a deeper dig into the description also mentions the cotton used is a thick, high quality cotton. This is not say that it is super heavy, but as one of the customers noted, this would make it unfit for very hot weather. The 964Light Blue variant looks wonderful.

Zilcremo Women Casual Dress Tie Dye/Floral Short Sleeve Summer Loose Maxi Dresses with Pockets

Colour Variants

What Reviewers Say

Most people that loved the dress said that it is pretty, fits them well, and some also pointed out the use for the pockets. Quality and softness were also attributes mentioned.

On the negative end of the spectrum, people complained about the dress’s material being too cheap or thin, that it did not fit them properly, or that the colours they received were off.

Out of 180+ customer ratings, 55% rated 5 stars, 14% rated 4 stars, 15% rated 3 stars, 6% rated 2 stars, 11% rated 1 star.

Millennium Creek’s Words

Given the dress’s low price point, and fact that it is not a major brand name, it is fair to not expect it to be the most dazzling dress around. With “Maxi” being in the name, I can see why some people were put off by the fact that it is not long enough. Then again, you can very clearly see in the pictures that while it is a long dress, it is not intended to flow on the ground. For that reason, perhaps Zilcremo would be better off just calling it a long dress, as opposed to a Maxi one.

VICSPORT Women Sun Hat Wide Brim Bucket Mesh Boonie Cap Outdoor Fishing Hats UV Protection

61xv7a3FOEL._AC_UX679_

It is not surprising that a wide-brimmed hat like this makes it onto this list. The mesh allows for breathability, while the brims helps keep the ultraviolet rays off of your face. Why is this one particularly a bestseller? You will find out once you get to “What Reviewers Say”.

Specifications

  • Buckle closure
  • Sun hat circumference: 53-58cm, Hat Height: 11cm. Adjustable elastic buckle at the back of the fishing hat to adjust the head size.
  • UPF 50+ high quality summer sun protection wide brim cap
  • Breathable
  • The sun protection cap features an internal sweatband, double mesh and ponytail hole. The buttons on the side can be used to convert it into a cowgirl hat
  • Lightweight, foldable, and easy to carry
  • Great for fishing, hiking, beach, swimming pool, camping, hunting, tourism, gardening or any outdoor activities.

Colour Variants

What Reviewers Say

This is one of those products that customers loved enough for some to even leave photographs. Customers love that it fits their head, offers great flexibility, and most importantly protects them from excessive sunlight.

On the negative end of the spectrum, people said that theirs arrived with a broken string, or that it did not fit their head.

Thankfully, the negative reviews for this hat are very few. Out of 427+ customer ratings, 73% left a 5 star rating, 14% left a 4 star rating, 5% left a 3 star rating, 2% left a 2 star rating, and 5% left a 1 star rating.

Millennium Creek’s Words

I would have thought that a straw hat or fedora of the sort would have been ranked higher within bestsellers. Given this hat’s convertible nature and choice of materials, I can see why this it ranks higher than others.

Puma Women’s Non Terry No Show Low Cut Athletic Sport Sock

91tzGcT+7TL._AC_SX679._SX._UX._SY._UY_.jpg

Wearing athletic or low top shoes? Then these are a must-have. And with Puma being an internationally recognized performance brand, it should not come as a surprise that these socks are on the Women’s Athletic Socks Bestsellers list.

Specifications

  • 80% Rayon, 15% Polyester, 5% Spandex
  • Machine Wash
  • 1.77cm high
  • 35.56cm wide*
  • Puma cat logo at forefoot, Puma form strip at sides
  • Lifestyle sock

* Even though the specifications word it as “wide” they mean length. I have never seen any socks 35cm wide. Not even Shaquille wears anything remotely near that wide.

Colour Variants

What Reviewers Say

The overwhelming majority of customers rated these socks 4 stars or higher. Comments frequently said things like “I love them,” “they fit great,” “comfortable,” and “breathable”.

On the negative end of the spectrum, people said that they were too tight, arrived with a sock(s) missing, arrived torn, or were disappointed with something.

Out of 1,371+ customer ratings, 79% rated 5 stars, 12% rated 4 stars, 5% rated 3 stars, 1% rated 2 stars, 2% rated 1 star.

Millennium Creek’s Words

The size of these socks is listed as US  9 – 11. People that found them too tight, may not have taken this into consideration. As for the looks, it is what you would expect from performance socks: low cut, mesh atop, and the brand stamped somewhere on it. I recommend getting the Grey/White/Black variant.

PUMA Womens Tazon 6 WN’s Fm Cross-Trainer Shoe

61EKFUXw53L._AC_SX395._SX._UX._SY._UY_

Looking for something on the Best Sellers For Women’s Outdoor Multisport Shoes? Even if you do not care about a particular product being on that list, you would be hard pressed to find someone who has never heard of Puma. As mentioned for the socks above, Puma is an internationally recognized performance brand. Never tried their shoes before? Now is a good time to try them out.

Specifications

  • 100% Synthetic Leather
  • Rubber sole
  • Synthetic leather
  • Breathable EcoOrthoLite sockliner for optimum fit and comfort
  • Thermoplastic Polyurethane (TPU) shank for increased stability

Colour Variants

What Reviewers Say

“Great,” “Comfortable,” “Gave my feet the support they needed” “Love the colours” “Stylish,” “Cute,” and more.” These are the things I saw frequently mentioned when I took a look at the customer reviews.

On the negative end of the spectrum, which is thankfully very small for these shoes, people said they were tight, it made their feet stink, or that the shoes were too heavy for them.

Out of 3,921 customer ratings, 83% rated 5 stars, 9% rated 4 stars, 5% rated 3 stars, 0% rated 2 stars, and 2% rated 1 stars. This is daylight clear that close to 100% of women were highly satisfied with their Puma Tazons.

Millennium Creek’s Words

Over the years, I have mainly worn Reebok, Timberland, and Nike. The last time I wore Pumas was when I was a child. Seeing these, their reviews, and the fact there has been a lot of sales for Summer 2020, makes me very curious about trying something from Puma for the first time in 15+ years. Certainly not the ladies’ Tazon, but something that would suit me. What do I think of the ladies’ Tazon? I would say that you buy the Purple/White/Silver variant. But if you like black, there is no harm in going for that either.

Urban CoCo Women’s Basic Flared Casual Mini Skate Skirt Versatile Stretchy

71GIw7+HS9L._AC_SX679._SX._UX._SY._UY_.jpg

Urban CoCo is one of those brands that sounds familiar. At the same time, I never actually knew what it was until I stumbled upon it while writing this. What have I learned about it? A lot of their products are bestsellers.

Specifications

  • 95% polyester +5% spandex
  • Stretchy fabric for comfortable fit
  • 100% Brand New / Without any accessories
  • Occasion: casual outings, school, office, dates, and parties any occasion is perfect

*Despite what is said in the specifications, 73% of customers say this fits true to size. As always, read the comments and answered questions if you are not sure.

Colour Variants

This skirt comes in both a long variant and a mini variant.

Mini Version

What Reviewers Say

On the positive part of the spectrum:

  • “So cute”
  • “Pleased with purchase!”
  • “Great skirts”
  • “Absolutely adorable”
  • “My favourite skirt!!”
  • “Very happy with this skirt, bought 3 more colors”
  • “True to size, stretchy, and comfortable !”

As you can see from these quotes, customers think it is really cute. Many even bought it in more colours.

On the negative end of the spectrum people complained that they received the wrong colour, wrong size, or that they found the quality too cheap.

Out of 8,553 customer ratings, 65% rated 5 stars, 19% rated 4 stars, 9% rated 3 stars, 3% rated 2 stars, and 4% rated 1 star.

Millennium Creek’s Words

It is stretchy, inexpensive, and comes in tons colours, so I can see why most of the customers felt the urge to drop a comment on what they like about it. Sometimes, you have products that sell well, but nobody bothers to really comment much. Not the case with the Urban CoCo Skirt.

Harry And Meghan’s Royal Departure: Racism, Stress, And Lack Of Privacy

It Was Already Tough

Being a British Royal is not easy. There are many rules and duties a Royal must keep to maintain the role. Then there is the media doing what it typically does best: capture media. Similarly to a celebrity, the media loves filming, photographing, or writing about the life of a Royal, and then posting it all over various social media platforms. As one could imagine, this can not only be tiring, but also highly invasive and unnecessarily harsh. When the commentary, posts, or videos frequently degrade someone for being a woman, mother, multiracial, not Royal enough, marrying an outsider, gaffing at personal tragedies, and a plethora of other unnecessary topics, this is bound to take a toll on one’s health. Anyone who already knows, or has researched Meghan and Harry, will know that they both had a past of hardships. The media made their lives tough to the point that it ultimately turned them away from the Royal spotlight.

Quick Background Stories

Prince Harry was born in London, England, United Kingdom, September 15, 1984. He is the second son of Charles, Prince of Wales, and Princess Diana. He has been schooled through Wetherby School, Ludgrove School, and Eton College. Prince Harry is most famous for his decade long role in the military from 2005 – 2015, and charitable work.

Meghan Markle was born in Los Angeles, California, United States, on August 04, 1981. She is the only child of Thomas Markle, a former cinematographer, and Doria Ragland, a former social worker and yoga instructor. She has been schooled through Hollywood Little Red Schoolhouse, Immaculate Heart High School, and Northwestern University. Meghan is most famous for her previous role as an actress, particularly the Television series Suits. She also used to have a lifestyle website named The Tig.

January 2020 Statements

This month there have been three statements posted: the first on the 8th, and the second and third on the 18th regarding the Duke and Duchess of Sussex.

January 8th Via Instagram

“After many months of reflection and internal discussions, we have chosen to make a transition this year in starting to carve out a progressive new role within this institution. We intend to step back as ‘senior’ members of the Royal Family and work to become financially independent, while continuing to fully support Her Majesty The Queen. It is with your encouragement, particularly over the last few years, that we feel prepared to make this adjustment. We now plan to balance our time between the United Kingdom and North America, continuing to honour our duty to The Queen, the Commonwealth, and our patronages. This geographic balance will enable us to raise our son with an appreciation for the royal tradition into which he was born, while also providing our family with the space to focus on the next chapter, including the launch of our new charitable entity. We look forward to sharing the full details of this exciting next step in due course, as we continue to collaborate with Her Majesty The Queen, The Prince of Wales, The Duke of Cambridge and all relevant parties. Until then, please accept our deepest thanks for your continued support.” – The Duke and Duchess of Sussex

This statement was a sign of their intentions to officially step back, before the world received an official statement. An official statement arrived 10 days after this.

January 18th Via Royal UK

Following many months of conversations and more recent discussions, I am pleased that together we have found a constructive and supportive way forward for my grandson and his family.

Harry, Meghan and Archie will always be much loved members of my family.

I recognise the challenges they have experienced as a result of intense scrutiny over the last two years and support their wish for a more independent life.

I want to thank them for all their dedicated work across this country, the Commonwealth and beyond, and am particularly proud of how Meghan has so quickly become one of the family.

It is my whole family’s hope that today’s agreement allows them to start building a happy and peaceful new life. – Her Majesty The Queen

Statement from Buckingham Palace

The Duke and Duchess of Sussex are grateful to Her Majesty and the Royal Family for their ongoing support as they embark on the next chapter of their lives.

As agreed in this new arrangement, they understand that they are required to step back from Royal duties, including official military appointments. They will no longer receive public funds for Royal duties.

With The Queen’s blessing, the Sussexes will continue to maintain their private patronages and associations. While they can no longer formally represent The Queen, the Sussexes have made clear that everything they do will continue to uphold the values of Her Majesty.

The Sussexes will not use their HRH titles as they are no longer working members of the Royal Family.

The Duke and Duchess of Sussex have shared their wish to repay Sovereign Grant expenditure for the refurbishment of Frogmore Cottage, which will remain their UK family home.

Buckingham Palace does not comment on the details of security arrangements. There are well established independent processes to determine the need for publicly-funded security.

This new model will take effect in the Spring of 2020.

The Meaning

Harry and Meghan are stepping down entirely from Royalty in pursuit of a quieter, more peaceful, less intrusive life. Her Majesty clearly acknowledged that intrusive media was the driving force behind the couple’s resignation. Even with the resignation, both thanked each other for what they experienced during their time with the Royal family. However, it is not all positive despite what these statements may suggest. Many, including current Royals, and others outside of the Royals, also said they were disappointed with the move.

Why Harry Left

Harry’s life has been in the media since he was a child. His birth, His first day of school, parent’s divorce, grief of his mother’s death, teenage parties, drug usage, inappropriate costumes, sports events, military years, the Las Vegas scandal, romance with Meghan, and a plethora of other events. Harry has spoken out about the death of his mother still being a wound that festers. He has also mentioned that the way the media is treating Meghan is alarming with the following quote:

“I’ve seen what happens when someone I love is commoditized to the point that they are no longer treated or seen as a real person. I lost my mother and now I watch my wife falling victim to the same powerful forces,”

The decision was not something he took lightly. He spoke about it during a speech at a private dinner in London for his charity Sentebale. Harry is deeply concerned about the safety of his family and their independence. He knew backing away from Royalty would cause much discussion — positive and negative, but took the leap of faith in pursuit for a tamer life.

“I watched as you welcomed Meghan with open arms, as you saw me find the love and happiness that I hoped for all my life” – Prince Harry

Why Meghan Left

Since the times Prince Harry had been dating Meghan, she had been subject to intense online harassment. These attacks have been double standards, racist, sexist, and uncalled for. It had been so bad that the Kensington Palace released a statement on behalf of the Prince, November 08, 2016, about his deep concerns for his partner. He wanted those involved with the press to stop and think about their actions and words. On October 01, 2019, Prince Harry himself released a statement. This statement was about taking legal action over a British tabloid press that had been spreading ruthless, malicious information over the past year of his wife’s pregnancy.

In 2018, Meghan Markle became a member of the royal family. Since then, she has been repeatedly compared to Kate Middleton, and criticized for doing the same things Kate is praised for. Wearing wedges, cradling her baby bump, refusing pictures at Wimbledon, and other trivial things that should not even make news to begin with.

Meghan is biracial, being Black American on her mother’s side, and White American on her fathers. As such, she has received numerous mockery about her Black ancestry from various mediums. From articles and comments saying she is almost out of Compton, her rich and exotic DNA, her mother being a dreadlocked African-American lady from the wrong side of the tracks, jungle fever, biracial commoner, and thousands, perhaps millions more.

Back in October 2019 on ITV News, Meghan spoke out about her struggles being a Royal and a mother. She expressed feeling really vulnerable while she was pregnant, as well as the hardships of Royalty.

How The World Has Reacted

Upon the reveal of the Duke and Duchess of Sussex departing from Royalty, it has brought a tremendous reaction across the world. For North America, it has been mostly positive, though some people thought they were being weak and cheap.

Royal Reaction

For the Royal family themselves, it unsurprisingly brought great shock. The Queen is saddened that she will not get to see Archie as often. Despite her warm wishes from the statement, a Royal commentator pointed out that the Queen truthfully feels disappointed by the move. This is evidenced by the fact that she not only stripped Harry of his military title, but also that they cannot even represent her anymore. When Prince Philip was brought the news he bluntly said, “What the hell are they playing at?” He felt they have disrespected the Queen. The fact the Sussexes did not spend time with the family last Christmas did not help either. Catherine and William, were also reported to feel not only disappointed, but concerned about the future of the Royal family after the departure of the Sussexes.

Thomas Markle

Meghan’s father openly said in a video that he was disappointed. He even went as far to say that they were cheapening the Royals, and turning them into a Walmart with a crown on it.

Canada

Most of Canada feels delighted that the Sussexes have their eyes on Canada. Canadians reported that it made them feel that their is country safe, welcoming, and could give the nation more attention. However, others are also concerned about how their presence here could effect their money. In other words, taxpayers do not want to pay for their bills. Prime Minister Trudeau said the following last week:

“I think most Canadians are very supportive of having royals be here, but how that looks and what kind of costs are involved, there are still lots of discussions to have.”

Privacy?

Unlike the United Kingdom and United States, Canada is not known for having a major paparazzi or tabloid culture. However, commentators and legal experts have also pointed out that stepping outside of Britain’s boundaries means that the Sussexes will no longer have the same protection they did in Britain as Royals. While Canada does have similar privacy protection rules in place, they are regulated on a Provincial level. Photographers generally do not need the permission of people to photograph them, as long as they are not in a situation where privacy is expected.

Scenarios

A) A photographer openly takes a photograph of people from a distance. The people were in a public park flying kites. No violation here. Anyone could easily see him, they were not doing anything private, nor did anyone feel invaded.

B) A photographer takes a photograph of people at a park, but there also happened to be a woman breastfeeding. This would be a violation of privacy because the woman was doing a sensitive act, and he did not inform her that he was about to shoot a photograph.

C) A photographer takes a photograph of people playing soccer from behind some blackberry bushes. This an area of uncertainty. The soccer game was public, nor were there major expectations of privacy, but the way he took the photograph was dishonest. If people were to find out how took it, he would have been criticized as being creepy. Some, depending on the circumstances, would have even brought it further to court.

What The Experts Say

Vancouver media lawyer Dan Burnett said the Sussexe’s expectation of privacy in Canada would depend on the individual situation if they decided to take a problem to court. Ingrid Seward, a royal biographer and editor of Majesty Magazine, said that she was surprised the couple were not expecting the paparazzi to follow them to Canada. Paparazzi have already taken photographs of the couple without their consent from day one, leading to them issuing legal warnings not to do this. To make matters creepier, the Sussexe’s reported that the paparazzi were hiding in bushes, with some even camped outside their homes with long lenses.

The Future

The move from the Sussexe’s will certainly have an impact on the Monarchy. The exact extent is currently unknown. It has certainly brought shock and upset to the Royal family. The United Kingdom, which is already going through uncertainty and challenges with Brexit, was naturally taken by surprise as well. There were many British that also supported the decision, however.

What Happened?

Between Uropygial Gland: What is it? and up to Webpages: Laurentian Wirelessthey all originally had an “Inspiration Behind This Post” section. From Webpages: Red Maple Greater Toronto Area Home Renovation Group and onward I stopped putting it in. Now, I have decided to remove it from all of my writings. Why? As time went on, it began to look increasingly unprofessional in my eyes. This was especially true for articles. I was originally going to officially launch my services back in January or February this year, with the latest being March. I then put it off to take a little more time to properly finish the remaining parts of the portfolio project. Also, to get a few additional blog posts done.

With me planning to finally launch my services this month, I need the website to reflect the professionalism my brand touts. Having that section in articles, webpages, and other categories, detracts from the nature of the post. Maybe some might disagree, and think that it was a nice, unique touch. Either way, I have now decided to compile them all into this post from the first to the latest published on May 03, 2019. For the ones that did not have any, I will create it here. For all posts published after May 03, 2019, I will not post their inspirational sections here, but probably within another compilation. No guarantee, though. For now, enjoy my source of motivation for 40+ writings.

Inspiration Behind This Blog Post: Welcome to Millennium Creek!

Ah, this was my very first post on the website. The creek had been silent and lifeless for two years, before it started flowing with life. How things have changed between then and now! I posted this as a sign of interest towards developing the website, but was not exactly sure when do it. This leads right up to the next post: Rediscovering its Purpose

Inspiration Behind This Blog Post: Rediscovering its Purpose

This post was created as an affirmation to turning Millennium Creek into a professional website focused on various types of write-ups. It goes into detail about why I came back to it, what I planned to do it, and more.

Inspiration Behind This Article: Uropygial Gland: What is it?

I have been aware of the basic functions of a bird’s oil gland for quite some time. However, I have not really thought much about this subtle gland. This has changed when I had handled a budgerigar some time this year (2018), and noticed that its gland looked odd for a small bird. This then prompted me to go and learn more about this seemingly simple orifice. I wanted to learn more about the function, appearance, and diseases of the uropygial gland.

Inspiration Behind This Article: 2018 All-electric Cars Canada

For this blog entry, my motivation stems from my love for vehicles, particularly all-electric ones. Electric car offerings are truly getting more exciting, as we go further into the future.

Inspiration Behind This Article: Alto Clef: Does it Have Any Real Use?

As anyone would be able to tell from the way I went into such passionate detail with parts of this post, I am really into band instruments. So much, that it was only natural that I would create this post as part of the Millennium Creek restoration effort for this week. Why the alto clef? It is an underrated clef that it grossly misunderstood.

Inspiration Behind This Article: Will America Eventually Ban All Chinese Smartphones?

I wanted to do a post on smartphones, but could not decide what exactly I wanted to write about. The latest flagship available? iOSLG’s plummeting smartphone sales? I then thought about Huawei and ZTE with the legal troubles they are going through. I thought that this would make an excellent, interesting, informative, provocative subject matter to discuss. Do I personally think that the United States will eventually ban all Chinese smartphones? If by ban, we are talking about a total ban as in no importation, forbidding sales, and blocking them off from American cellular towers, then no.

Inspiration Behind This Article: Racism in Canada 2018: Getting Better or Worse?

This week, I knew that I wanted to do a post on racism/multiculturalism on Friday. In fact, I had that determined before I even knew which topics I precisely wanted to cover for the previous blog posts. Racism is a serious issue that must not be ignored and swept under a rug. It is a problem that prohibits prosperity and safety. We must acknowledge that it exists, talk about it, and seek to eradicate it whenever we can. Canada may fare better than many other places in the world, but there is still much work and improvement that needs to be done.

Inspiration Behind This Article: Keystroke logging

Cybersecurity is not a glamorous topic, but is very important. I felt that this article deserved to be resurfaced, since it contains enough valuable information in a manageable format.

Inspiration Behind This Article: Encrypting Your Smartphone’s MicroSD Card

Despite being originally written in 2016, microSD card slots are still a valuable component in phones that support them. This article contains a lot of valuable information, majority of which is still relevant in 2018. For this reason, it deserved to be polished, reformatted and uploaded onto Millennium Creek, giving it a far better chance to flow and get the views it deserves.

Inspiration Behind This Article: China Dress: Simply a Dress or More Than That?

Keziah Daum. Who is that you may ask? Perhaps you are well informed about this story already, but maybe not. Keziah is a regular 18-year-old, American citizen from Woods Cross High School, Utah, United States of America. She is a Caucasian person that decided to wear a qipao for her 2018 prom. Why? She personally thought it would be a beautiful, unique dress to wear for the special event. Unfortunately, after posting photographs on social media, a Twitter user tweeted, “My culture is NOT your ****amn prom dress” Now based on what you already might know, or what you have recently read from this blog post: are there any restrictions for foreigners wearing a qipao? No, none at all. There is a reason why YesStyleModern Qipao, and Chinese Clothing Online ship to plenty of non-Asian countries. Even Amazon. This story has since caused a debate on whether or not, it was really cultural appropriation. Most have sensibly agreed that it was not. Even though the criticism was uncalled for, this story inspired me to research and learn more about what I simply always called the “China dress“.

Inspiration Behind This Article: Starbucks Anti-bias Training Day

I did not have plans to write such a blog post today. But when the headlines came up about Starbuck’s official anti-bias training taking place across over 8,000 American outlets, it inspired me to do another blog post on racism. Though the incident was very unfortunate and should have never happened, the story, follow-ups behind it, and all the media surrounding it, have been very interesting. It has sparked a lot of debate over the lingering presence of racial profiling, especially towards Black people.

Inspiration Behind This Blog Post: Fiat Chrysler Automotobiles: June 2018 Discussion

When I heard that Fiat Chrysler was announcing a new five-year plan on June 1st, I knew that I was definitely going to do a blog post on it. I wanted to take a look at what was said, the rumors, and of course my opinions on this. The latter, not-so-surprisingly, ended up being the longest section of this entry. Which Fiat Chrysler brand is your favourite? How do you feel about their new five-year plan? The departure of Sergio Marchionne in April 2019? Comment down below and share your thoughts.

Inspiration Behind This Article: The Tokay Gecko

This post was originally supposed to be my unpublished 200-worded piece “Are Tokay Geckos Too Violent For Beginners?” But it did not happen. The original piece was not complete garbage, but was also not up to Millennium Creek standards and quality. I figured that if I were going to put up an information piece on tokay geckos, that I should expand it and include much more useful information. Why tokay geckos in particular? I wanted to do an article on an exotic animal of the sort. The tokay gecko’s stunning colours and feisty personality made it a good choice.

Inspiration Behind This Article: Indigenous Peoples of Canada

A little bit back, I created a rough notepad titled “Millennium Creek Upcoming Topics May-June 2018” There, I brainstormed a list of topics and types of writings I wanted to do over the summer. It has since been moved to a word file titled, “Ultimate Millennium Creek Writing Plan For June-July-August 2018” On this word file, I have laid out all the posts and different types of writing styles I plan to do. Since I had the topic of Indigenous Canadians in the notepad for some time, I decided to go with it. Writing about Indigenous Canadians has been an interesting, eye-opening, refresher about the people I live among. The people that have inhabited this country long before foreign settlers from other continents have arrived.

Inspiration Behind This Article: Health Benefits of Extra Virgin Olive Oil

As mentioned in the previous post, a summer plan was created for the types of writings and topics I wanted to do. While it did not explicitly state which topics or types of writing I was going to do, extra virgin olive oil was one that was planned for quite some time. Why this topic? I was searching around the Internet one day, and stumbled across a post that went into the lengthy health benefits of extra virgin olive oil. I then decided that I definitely wanted to do my own post on this topic. I wanted to add my take on it, and include information and tidbits that the others have failed to mention.

Inspiration Behind This Article: What is SaaS?

While I have been seeing the term “SaaS” for quite some time, it was not until more recently that I would do something more about it. I decided to add it to my writing plan of future topics. Now here it is on the Internet. Writing and researching it has given me a much better understanding of what it is, and more awareness of the companies that use or offer it. It probably should not come as a surprise, that I do prefer one-time purchases over subscription models when it comes onto computer software. I can see why businesses go with SaaS for the benefits discussed earlier. For me, one-time purchases suit my needs. What about you? Do you prefer subscription models or one-time purchases?

Inspiration Behind This Article: The Difference Between Nationality Versus Ethnicity

Aside from it being a planned summer article, I wanted to do this post to clarify the difference of these terms. There are many articles on the Internet that either have them mixed up, or written entirely inaccurately. This is not to say that mine is the best, and only one worth of reading. It is not. But, at the same time, it was thoughtfully and factually put together to give it credibility and quality. Found this article helpful, informative or interesting? Drop a comment below or share it with your friends and relatives.

Inspiration Behind This Critique: Royal Bank of Canada Website Critique

A continuation of the plan summer plan to put up various categories of writings on Millennium Creek. If you read the beginning of this critique, you will know that Canadian Tire and Havelaar Canada will be appearing on Millennium Creek to join RBC as part of the portfolio for non-endorsed website critiques.

Inspiration Behind This Critique: Canadian Tire Website Critique

This write-up is the second out of the three non-endorsed website critiques, being done for a portfolio project. Why did I choose Canadian Tire of all online retailers? Well, there were a lot of other online retailers that I could have went with. For the second critique, I wanted to choose an online retail that was based in Canada, that also has a physical store. For those two reasons, it should be no surprise that Canadian Tire was one of the first places that came to mind, so I went with it. Readers, what are your impressions of these critiques so far? Comment and share your thoughts.

Inspiration Behind This Critique: Havelaar Canada Website Critique

This write-up is the third and final out of the three non-endorsed website critiques, being done for a portfolio project. If you have read my previous articles pertained to automobiles, then my inspiration behind this post should be very clear: my love all-electric cars. As such, I originally thought about doing a critique for Tesla. But then, I thought that the Tesla already has enough press and attention surrounding them, so I thought about doing Jaguar. Now Jaguar may only have one all-electric vehicle in the lineup, but the company as whole was attractive enough to make me consider it. I was then torn between Tesla and Jaguar. I then decided to do neither of those two, and went with the lesser known, Canada-based, Havelaar Canada. Turned out to be a good choice. If it does make it to production, I hope there will be a 4-door crew cab option.

Inspiration Behind This Essay: Is It Acceptable For Women To Breastfeed In Public? Yes

Upon finishing the articles and website critiques for the Summer Project, now Autumn Portfolio 2018 Project, the next part of it is argumentative essays. Seeing as though I had already done this particular topic originally on May 30, 2016, I figured that it made lots of sense to upload it as the first choice for this part of the project. For the argumentative essays I cover in this project, I do plan to cover both “For” and “Against” *insert topic*. I plan to do three topics, bringing it to six essays, or six sides depending on how you look at it. For those of you that hated doing argumentative essay in school, you would probably think this is madness. Truth is, as long as the subject matter is not complex, and you understand the format of argumentative essays, they are actually quite easy to do. Or am I just saying that because I am an experienced writer? Either way, drop a comment on this topic and let me know what you think of public nursing.

Inspiration Behind This Essay: Is it acceptable for women to breastfeed in public? No

This essay serves as the voice against public nursing. For the side that supports public nursing, click here. Now that both sides of this subject matter have been explored, I am almost certain that you must be wondering how do I, Millennium Creek, feel about women breastfeeding in public? Well, it should not come as a surprise, but it surprises me that this is even a debate in the first place. As far as I am concerned, I do not know of any mother that would flagrantly expose their entire chest with the intention of creating shock and disgust. Virtually nobody would want to put themselves and their child in unnecessary danger. A mother nursing her infant should be treated as casually as somebody drinking from a water bottle to satisfy their thirst.

Inspiration Behind This Essay: Should Canadians Be Required To Know Both French And English Upon High School Graduation? Yes

I honestly do not remember why I chose this as one of the subjects I wanted to cover for the essays part of the portfolio. I do remember going through lists of good topics to do for an argumentative essay. I do not recall specifically seeing anything titled “Should Canadians Be Required to Know Both French and English Upon High School Graduation?” I believe that I did run into something that had to do with language and bilingualism. From there, I decided to go with this one. Do you also agree that Canadians should know both languages by the time they graduate? Type your comments and let me know.

Inspiration Behind This Essay: Should Canadians Be Required To Know Both French And English Upon High School Graduation? No

This essay serves as the voice that is against forced bilingualism on high school students. For the voice that supports it, click here. Do you agree with the points in this essay? I strongly suspect that most people would side with this voice, but I might be wrong? Let me know by leaving a comment. “Should Bilingualism Be A Graduation Requirement In Canada?” Perhaps would have been a nicer sounding title for these essays.

Inspiration Behind This Essay: Is Technology Limiting Creativity? Yes

This is the 3rd and final topic for the argumentative essay part of the portfolio project of 2018. I came around to choosing this topic by browsing a list of good essay topics. Why this one in particular? Though you may very well know at this point that I am into electronics, it is also because of how interesting and thought-provocative it is. In fact, I honestly feared that I would not know how to go about writing this. Thankfully, it came through and I managed to get this side of the topic done. Do you agree that technology is limiting creativity? Comment and let me know.

Inspiration Behind This Essay: Is Technology Limiting Creativity? No

Now that the “No” voice of this essay topic is complete, this marks the completion of the essay part of my 2018 portfolio project. As explained on the “Yes” voice, my inspiration behind choosing this topic for an argument, was the result of two things:

  1. Browsing through a list of topics to do for an argumentative essay
  2. My love for technology

With that said, it is obvious that I believe technology is not limiting creativity. The problem is people themselves not knowing how to be creative, and where to draw their sources of inspiration. My own website, Millennium Creek, is a good example of creativity that would not have been possible without the appropriate technology in place. Do you also agree that technology is not limiting creativity? Or have you sided with the “Yes” voice? Comment and let me know. While some people would love a world without smartphones, computers and televisions, our lives would be significantly harder in too many ways.

Inspiration Behind This Creative Piece: Speech: Let It Become A Legal Requirement To Label Genetically Modified Organisms In Canada

I do not think I have ever written any speech of the sort before. Whether it be intended for school, work or business. The idea of writing a speech definitely brought feelings of uncertainty, but I still did not cancel the idea. The completion of this speech marks the first write-up of the Creative Writing part of my portfolio part. Why a speech? Why this topic? As to why I would want a speech, it is because I thought it would be a valuable, challenging write-up to have in my portfolio. As for my topic of choice, I simply searched around for good speech topics. Interestingly, what happens to be a good topic for persuasive essays, also happens to be an excellent topic for speeches. For that reason, it is no wonder I have seen some people go as far to call speeches “spoken essays”. What do you think? How do you feel about this topic? Comment and let me know.

Inspiration Behind This Creative Piece: Beautiful Blue Creek (Haiku)

A Haiku was originally going to be the first write-up for the Creative Writing part of my portfolio project. Instead, I opted to write a speech first, making this the 2nd writing in the category. Why a Haiku? The last time I have written a Haiku probably dates back to elementary school. Yes, that is indeed a frighteningly long time!

Much of the content on Millennium Creek tends to be articles or writings that often tip 1,000 words. Doing a short Haiku on creeks, felt refreshing and very different. I am quite a fan of the simplicity and beauty of Haiku. I may create more of them in 2019. For now, I will proceed to working on the next creative piece.

For those of you that absolutely love Haiku, I recommend you have a look at Basho: The Complete Haiku, On Haiku, and maybe this mug? Have you ever written a Haiku? Perhaps you frequently write Haiku? Comment and let me know.

Inspiration Behind This Creative Piece: Walk of the Wilderness

Is this a story? Or is it a poem? A poetic story? Those are the questions that frequently came up in my mind while I was writing this. Truth be told, this is supposed to be a “long poem”. It probably might not look like it to some, but that was the intention. It is neither a fictional or non-fiction story. Now because poetry admittedly is not my specialty, there may be some debates on how good it is, or how you might personally disagree with my classification of it this work. Walk of the Wilderness marks the 3rd creation of the Creative Writing part of my portfolio project. It was supposed to be the 2nd, but if you already read the “Inspirational” section of my Haiku, you will have the answer to why it is not.

So aside from creating this as a “look what I can do” sort of thing, you must be wondering about what the actual inspiration of this particular poem is, right? It happened when I tasked myself with the objective to complete a third Creative Writing piece. It was originally going to be a write-up of one of my real dreams. I could not decide which dream to write about. I did not want to waste too much time on it, because 2018 was coming to an end very soon. I wanted to get the Creative Writings done before Christmas. I then decided to just write one massive, story-like poem about a brief dream belonging to no one, themed around walking through the wilderness. I did not plan, nor even look at other poems for inspiration. I just threw myself in front of the keyboard, brainstormed the title, and wrote whatever came to my mind.

As anyone can tell, it is advisable to plan and get inspiration when writing poetry. It makes it more organized and refined. Or at least I think so. Well, I suppose writing whatever floats up also has its perks, too. Particularly, if you are trying to really flex that originality muscle. What did you think about this long poem? Think it does not deserved to be called such? Feels more like a story?

Inspiration Behind This Creative Piece: What Love is This?

This long piece falls into the same category of my previous Walk of the Wilderness, classifying as a long poem. If you view it as a series of short poetic stories, I will not blame you for seeing it that way. Now that aside, What Love Is This? is the 4th and final creation of the Creative Writing part of my portfolio project. What you will not know about this write-up, is the fact that it was not supposed to even come into being. In fact, I was originally going to stop the Creative Writing portfolio after writing #3. But suddenly, I felt a strong desire to create just one more long poem, before calling it complete. I am quite glad I did.

Why love? I figured that if I was going to write poems, that I had to do at least one love theme. Sounds like such a cliché thing to do, but the urge was strong. Very strong. Like Walk of the Wilderness, What Love Is This? was written in the same manner: placed myself in front of the keyboard, brainstormed a little, and just let my fingers do the rest. As a result, you may either find the poem adorable or creative, or very uncool.

Inspiration Behind The Product Descriptions From an Old Portfolio

I was originally going to start the 2019 portfolio project with the following writing categories: Blog posts and copywriting. I then had a change of heart and revised it to be product descriptions and copywriting, while making the blog posts optional. The reason is because I am going to be officially selling my services in the coming weeks. Likely in February, but possibly March. While my services have already been available for some time, I have never posted them officially and openly on social media.

Back in 2018, I completed articles, website critiques, argumentative essays, creative pieces, and the occasional blog post. Blog posts are nice and all, but they have not been a focus on Millennium Creek. I believe that getting product descriptions and copywriting into my portfolio sooner, would make it look far more attractive than common, regular blogs posts.

Seeing as though  I had already completed a write-up of original descriptions a few years ago, it made sense to tidy them up, and publish them as the first for this category. And yes, I am aware that writing product descriptions is a form of copywriting. By “copywriting” I have web pages in mind for the next category.

Inspiration Behind The 2019 Product Descriptions: Samsung Galaxy Note 9 and iPhone XS Max Accessories

The completion of this makes it the 2nd write-up of the Product Descriptions part of the portfolio project. The 1st was Product Descriptions From an Old Portfolio. Creating these names and descriptions from scratch was no easy task. I took a look at Google Maps and other products to get an idea for names and certain technical details. Even then, it still took some work. Nevertheless, completing this gave me some valuable experience and insight about product copy.

Why the Samsung Galaxy Note 9 and iPhone XS Max? Those two are among the most recognizable high-end devices in the world, making them a sensible choice to write portfolio descriptions for. Of course, there are many other fantastic devices out there. Some of which you can argue are even better. And finally, I would love to know what your top three picks would be if these products were real. Comment down below.

Inspiration Behind The 2019 Product Descriptions: Kaskawulsh Men’s Fashion

Fashion is a big deal because you have to wear clothes. You have to protect your body from the elements of the outdoors. And most obviously, you do not want to violate laws of indecency. Some people care greatly about looking stylish. Others value comfort, while some prefer to just buy whatever is affordable and necessary. The world of fashion is truly, very broad. I could have done men’s luxury fashion, women’s fashion, children’s fashion, ethnic fashion, and many more. For this portfolio piece, I decided to go with an imaginary, upscale brand that is not too expensive for the masses, but is not very cheap either.

Which of these products would you buy if they were real? Comment down below and share your interests.

Inspiration Behind The 2019 Product Descriptions: Cielistellati Fine Musical Instruments

My love for musical instruments. That is the driving reason behind choosing this as the 4th and final subject for the Product Descriptions category of the portfolio project. Woodwinds, brass, orchestral strings, percussion, keyboards — they all have their unique strengths and voices. If Cielistellati instruments were real, and money were no barrier, which of these instruments would you buy? I have a deep feeling that 95% of population would pick piano or violin. Prove me wrong by commenting on what your choice would be. Even if it is piano and violin, there is certainly nothing wrong with that. Both are beautiful when played by musicians who have been trained properly.

For those of you who are Italian, or at least understand the language, Cielistellati comes from the Italian words “cieli stellati” meaning starry skies. Your eyes would indeed be starry with the craftsmanship and sound quality of these instruments, if they were real.

Inspiration Behind The Webpages Of Laurentian Wireless

Every website obviously has webpages. Does every website have good pages? Unfortunately, they do not. I wanted to have a knack at writing webpages. I went ahead to test my webpage content writing skills with this category of the portfolio project. The reason why I chose a wireless carrier, will not be a surprise to any readers who have read most of my write-ups. (Love for smartphones and other electronics!)

Now finally, if Laurentian Wireless were a real company, would you subscribe to them? Or would you prefer to stick to Telus, Koodo, Rogers, Fido, Bell, Virgin Mobile or Freedom Mobile? Comment down below and let me know. I would also like to know what you think of this write-up. Should I have included certain details within pages that I missed? Your constructive feedback is very important to me.

Inspiration Behind The Webpages Red Maple Greater Toronto Area Home Renovation Group

Red Maple Greater Toronto Area Home Renovation Group (Red Maple GTA HRG) is the second write-up within the webpages category of the portfolio project. We all need a good, clean, peaceful house to dwell in. Therefore, this makes home renovation an extremely big industry. So big, that it was only natural that I would include it as one of the 5 webpage topics to go with. And because I am based in Ontario, I chose to go with an Ontarian-themed, imaginary example company.

Inspiration Behind The Webpages Of Wonder Food of 6 Worlds Restaurant

Wonder Food of 6 Worlds Restaurant (WF6WR) is the third write-up within the webpages category of the portfolio project. Not only is the hospitality and tourism industry interesting, it is a huge sector of commerce. When coming up with an imaginary example company, I knew I wanted to include a restaurant, but was not too sure of which theme to go with. Thinking of all the ethnic restaurants around me, I decided to go with a unique, multi-ethnic theme. A little challenging, but I like how it turned out.

Inspiration Behind The Webpages Of Seaforth Serpents

Seaforth Serpents is the fourth write-up within the webpages category of the portfolio project. People love their pets, particularly cats and dogs. While cats and dogs are popular and all, I wanted to go with something a little more niche for the 4th write-up of this area: reptiles, particularly snakes. I originally expected this piece to be quick and easy to type, but it proved me wrong. Animal shop websites actually have a lot of important text that needs to be on their webpages, or you risk numerous complications. Still, I personally love reptiles, so writing this was not uninteresting.

Inspiration Behind The Webpages Of Thunder Things Automotive Group

Thunder Things Automotive Group (TTAG) is the fifth and final write-up within the webpages category of the portfolio project. As mentioned in earlier automotive writings, I love all-electric vehicles, making this a very alluring choice to go with. TTAG may be an imaginary example company, but I really would like to see Canada create its own home-grown brand soon.

Inspiration Behind This Blog Post: “Maseromeo” What If Maserati And Alfa Romeo Merged Into One Brand?

As mentioned within the first paragraph of this post, this was originally intended to be a blog post written shortly after completing Fiat Chrysler Automobiles: June 2018 Discussion. Why did I still bother with it? Because it was too interesting of a discussion to throw off. Both Maserati and Alfa Romeo are internationally recognized brands that can stir up a variety of emotions.

Inspiration Behind This Blog Post: The Truth About Alfa Romeo’s Logo Surprised Me Greatly

My inspiration for this blog post is summed up perfectly within the first paragraph of this post: stumbled across an image with text about the logo, thus leading to me creating an entry all about it.

Inspiration Behind This Blog Post: Do I Believe There Is Life On Other Planets?

Without a doubt, the other celestial bodies around us are extremely fascinating. Some believe there is, or was life at some point on them. Others, such as myself, believe they never had or will ever be capable of supporting life. As such, I wanted to create a blog post entirely dedicated to this, and why they cannot support life.

Inspiration Behind This Blog Post: Remote Work Is Not Nonsense; It Is The Way

This blog post may very well be the most passionate-driven entry posted on Millennium Creek. Being someone who believes strongly in remote work, I felt as though I was called to do this when I saw someone write remote work off as nonsense on Twitter. Within the post, I go into plenty of detail about what remote work is and is not.

Feeling Inspired?

This was a ton of text to go through, but I do hope that you managed to read it all. And most importantly, I hope it left you feeling inspired to take some action of the sort. Whether it be reading the write-ups they link to, or creating a write-up inspired from them.

Introduction

Mankind has been able to successfully reproduce for thousands of years, across many continents of varying landscapes and temperatures. This is largely due to the excellent survival skills and knowledge our ancestors had. Child rearing and protection was also very important. Otherwise, our species would not have been able to make it to maturity and reproduce. Today, mothers continue to nurse their children for obvious reasons. However, in many places, especially public places, there is an issue about whether it is appropriate or not for a woman to expose a teat for child nursing. Some people encourage public breastfeeding, others discourage it, while some are not sure what they think about it. What is the truth? Who is right? Is it acceptable for women to breastfeed in public? The answer is no. Baring the breasts in public is indecent, unnecessary exposure, and not everything deemed natural should be done in front of people out in public. It is important to point out that public breastfeeding can also be dangerous too.

Being Respectful To Sensitive Eyes

Many people do not like it when people expose certain parts, especially the penis or vagina. The breasts also happen to bother some people or make them feel uncomfortable. It can be tempting for mothers to simply want to pull their shirt or brassiere to quiet a hungry, screaming infant, but mothers must be considerate of those around them who they may offend. Finding a quiet or private place to breastfeed is not difficult to do. In fact, some places even offer private stations or areas specifically designated for infant nursing. Doing this can also make the bonding moment with the mother more peaceful, quiet and much more discreet. There are things people experience in private, and there are parts of the body that are not meant for everybody to see and touch. This brings up the next point: natural things.

Natural Does Not Mean Ok To Do In The Open

There are several natural, primal things people do on a daily basis, but not everything deemed as natural should be done in public. Urinating, defecating, sexual intercourse, and showering while nude are just a few of many examples of natural things done frequently, but certainly not in public. The reason? These actions are simply not acceptable and appropriate to be done in modern public places. People have accepted that they must find a private location to carry out these activities, peacefully and respectfully to avoid potential conflict. Some might argue that breastfeeding does not fall under the category of the other actions listed, but it truly does. Considering how intimate and personal the act is, and the partial nudity involved with it, it is not appropriate to be done in front others. Using a cloth, blanket, towel or other alternative cover-ups is not an effective solution either. Powerful breezes, or even the infant itself can easily lift, rip and destroy the material the mother is trying to use. This will cause great humiliation that could have been easily avoided by feeding the child in a more private area.

Potentially Dangerous

Breastfeeding an infant in public is also potentially dangerous. The context of nursing is supposed to be a harmless procedure. Unfortunately, it leaves the mother at risk for harassment, awkward interactions and possibly even assault from nearby people, even when there are laws in place. The reason for this, unfortunately, largely boils down to the fact that the breasts in most cultures today are viewed as highly sexual, erotic body parts. Yes, the female mammary glands biological role is supposed to be for milk production and nursing. People can try and convince others to keep their hands or eyes to themselves. However, this does not work with everyone because some people do not listen, lack respect, and have no self-control. This will cause them to blurt out inappropriate comments, ask questions, touch, push, tease and do many other inappropriate things to a public breastfeeding mother, who only wanted to satisfy her child’s hunger. Feeding a hungry infant is a must, but there are too many dangers and problems that can occur from feeding in a public area. It is a great risk that should not be taken, if the mother really cares about herself and her child. Even if a friend or husband are present, it still will not stop certain people from doing, saying or asking inappropriate things.

Modernity and Decency

Breastfeeding itself is not taboo or illegal. It is mandatory for weaning and raising healthy children. If mothers never breastfed, the population would not successfully grow. The time it is done, or the place where it is being carried out, matters greatly today and needs to be done discreetly. It is not acceptable for women to breastfeed in public because it is improper exposure, falls under the category of inappropriate acts of nature, and is dangerous to both the infant and the mother.

Introduction

Humans have been reproducing and rearing their children for thousands of years in many different locations and climates. Mountains, deserts, temperate forests, rainforests, savannahs, tundras and many others. People did not care when or were their babies were being breastfed. Hunting, gathering, fending off predators, and all things pertained to survival were far more important. Breastfeeding a child, was considered as casual as drinking water from a nearby source. Fast forward to the modern times, and it is now a hot topic. A topic so hot, that it has garnered many different, variable opinions. Some people agree with public breastfeeding. Some are against it. Some lie in the middle of the spectrum, but what does it ultimately boil down to? Is it acceptable for women to breastfeed in public or not? Yes, yes it is. Why should it be? Because hunger is an uncontrollable state, breast milk is more natural and healthier than formula milk, and most importantly, it is illegal to harass a mother while she is nursing her baby in the public spaces of Canada and several other countries.

No Control Over Hunger and Thirst

Hunger and thirst are natural, uncontrollable conditions that occur whenever someone has a need to eat or drink. Older children, teenagers, and adults can eat and drink whenever they want. In the event of work, school or forbidden areas, they can go to designated areas or wait until break time. Infants on the other hand, especially in the earliest stages, cannot communicate with words. They are not capable of waiting until break periods or buying food on their own. Due to these limitations, they will cry out loud to bring it to their mother’s attention that they need to be fed. Knowing that hunger is an inherent condition, and the fact that infants cannot deal with hunger pangs the way older people can, why should a mother inconvenience herself and go out of the way to deal with her infant’s hunger? All she has to do is raise they child to her teat and let it drink her milk. For those that complain about indecent exposure, or even mothers themselves that might be worried about showing too much, a sling, wrap or cloth can very easily remedy the problem without walking away, exposing oneself or making the infant wait unnecessarily long.

Naturally Healthier

Still, some people might suggest that mothers should just carry a bottle of formulated milk in order to meet the demands of their baby, and avoid all the other potential troubles associated with natural breastfeeding in public. This is not a good idea for several reasons: one, the mother is caving into negative energy. Two, the mother has to spend money on something that could be given away for free. Three, the formula itself can be problematic due to high sugar content, genetically modified ingredients, allergen risks and many others. Breast milk on the other hand, can be delivered readily, shows negative individuals that the mother does not care about antagonistic onlookers, reduces allergen risks, provides better maternal bonding, and plenty of other benefits, thus making it a superior choice compared the option of formula feeding.

Legal Protection

Perhaps the most important thing to be aware of regardless of whether people accept public breastfeeding or not, is the fact that it is illegal to bother a nursing woman in many countries. Places such as Canada, the United States of America and the United Kingdom are examples of countries with legal protection in place. These countries have put these laws in place to discourage onlookers who may tell nursing mothers to move a more discreet area such as a washroom or car, tell them to cover up, or provoke them otherwise. Not every mother may know their rights in these countries. What they should know is that there are rules in place that has them covered for difficult, unpredictable events.

Summary

Given all the changes that happened over the centuries, breastfeeding has become more and more of an endangered practice. This is especially true, thanks to the amount of negativity that arises from nursing in the open. Now for the important question: is it acceptable for women to breastfeed in public? Particularly large, urban, modern areas? Yes, because hunger and thirst cannot be controlled, breast milk offers better benefits and more self-esteem than formula milk, and most importantly, there are many countries that have laws in place to protect mothers and put a damper on negative onlookers and harassment. Oftentimes, women are discouraged by others from breastfeeding in public places due to fears of indecency or provocation. It is important to remember that it is more of a health and life issue, than indecency issue. Women should have the choice to breastfeed their infants upon demand, regardless of location. On a final note, that has not been touched upon throughout this write-up is the teat. This could be an essay topic entirely on its own. If society wishes to stop the sexualization of the female teats, it needs to stop treating female teats as sexual objects.
