The Smell Of The Cedar And Wintergreen

Atlas Cedar, you are beautiful, tall, and visible from the hall.

Wintergreen, your pyramidal form and red berries are familiar and commonly seen.

Cardinals, blue jays, starlings, and chickadees have perched on you, Cedar.

Wild turkeys, sharp-tailed grouse, northern bobwhites, ring-necked pheasants, black bears, white-footed mice, and red foxes love you, Wintergreen.

Atlas cedar, you smell so nice! Warm, woody, and a little spicy is how you smell.

Wintergreen, you smell sweet, minty, and refreshing! One would think you were mint if he did not know better.

The smell of the cedar and wintergreen is uplifting.

Augustian Drought

August, you were a dry one.

An Unexpectedly dry one.

I do not know what happened, or why.

But you were real dry.

No crops. No Raindrops.

No wildlife. No sound of the fife.

Parched ground. A scorched mound.

River at a very lower height. Will not excite.

Peach tree looking very dry just like sky.

Songbird did not say his word.

This drought must be fought!

This Augustian drought will be an event to be learned from.

August, you were a dry one.

He Flapped His Wings

He Flapped His Wings

I went outside and saw a mourning dove. I paused. He looked at me.

Without moving a foot, he flapped his wings and took off.

He flew past the green trees and houses. Then disappeared off into the depth of the city.

I went to the creek to listen to the sound of the running waters.

A yellow warbler appeared on a branch. when I noticed a branch moving up and down from the corner of my eye, I turned to see it.

The warbler made some tweets. Then he flapped his wings, flew past the creek, and disappeared somewhere within the sticks.

I went into the open-spaced park and saw a rock pigeon.

He was strutting about his business. Suddenly, a stranger that had food on him tossed some edibles at him.

He enthusiastically ate it up. He looked around wondering if he would get more.

No more was thrown at him. He flapped his wings and took to the sky.

It seemed as though he was heading straight to the clouds, before making a sharp turn and flying beyond the distant buildings.

I was walking close to a pine tree and another unidentified tree.

Suddenly, the scenery had a dash of red added to it.

A cardinal added himself to it.

I looked at him. He looked in all sorts of directions. Soon enough, he flapped his wings and aimed for the sun?

No, that would be impossible, would it not? At least, this is what it seemed like before he made a different direction in the sky.

I went to the parking lot and saw a lone Canada goose.

He was not very kind. He did not want me getting too close to him at all.

Nevertheless, I wanted to get closer, despite his hisses and head gestures.

Soon enough, he decided he just did not want to be bothered with humans.

He flapped his wings and flew beyond the shopping outlet, while occasionally honking.

I went to a wildlife area and saw a pile of seeds.

Quite odd that animals had not gobbled them yet.

A chickadee appears. He eats a little. He looks around. He eats a little more.

He flapped his wings and disappeared deeper into the woods.

Do you think he will tell his friends about the random big pile of seeds?

I went to a tree-covered creek. I had not seen much signs of life, except for maybe the occasional squirrel.

Such nice scenery.

I turn to my side and see a blue jay on a branch. Finally a colourful sign of life around here.

Seemed he was in a hurry. In a short matter of time, he flapped his wings and went beyond the creek.

Somewhere deep in this neck of the woods.

I was walking near a building. I heard something that kind of sounded like laughing and squawking.

I looked up. It was a seagull.

He flapped his wings and went about his business.

Wow, that was fast. Was he guilty? Who was he laughing at? Or was he even laughing in the first place?

I saw a house sparrow. A little unusual to not see these birds in a flock, but he was there.

He was near someone’s home. Was he trying to get into the house through a hole?

I attempted to approach him. He flapped his wings and disappeared.

Into the hole? Not so. Perhaps he found another house to hang around.

I was walking down the road. I looked to my right and saw something highly unusual: a peach-faced love bird?

This had to be somebody’s lost pet. They are not native around here. Or worse, was he deliberately abandoned? I surely hope not.

I observed him. He was hanging around the window of a school. Seems highly probable he is a pet.

He did not want to hang around for very long. He flapped his wings and disappeared into the unknown. Hopefully back to his owner or somebody willing to take him as his.

I went to the bushes off-trail. Lots of plants all over the place, as one would expect.

I also heard some sounds. Who could be making those sounds? They are nice sounds.

A closer look revealed a red-winged blackbird. What could Mister Blackbird be up to today?

He does not reveal his plans. He prefers to keep them to himself. He flapped his wings and disappered into the sticks.

He must have a meeting with others of his kind.

I looked out my window and saw a common starling.

He was walking about, avidly pecking around the ground. I know what he is looking for: bird food.

He wants some nice crunchy seeds, sweet berries, and perhaps some insects for some fulfilling protein.

It does not seem like he is very satisifed with his findings, however. He flapped his wings and went to another yard.

I went to the woods. It was fairly quiet in this area. Quiet until I started hearing knocks.

Who and how could there be knockings in a place where there are no doors?

Perhaps there is a cottage or place in the distance that I do not know about?

Would not seem likely in a place like this.

It is only a matter of time before the culprit is revealed: a red-bellied woodpecker.

It is not often I see these birds. No, not very often at at all, hence why this did not cross my mind.

He pecked the wood many times. He let out a few vocalizations.

He flapped his wings and went away to another tree.

I went to a parking lot near pre-owned vehicles. A crow was there. Why here of all places?

Seems a little odd for this bird to be here. There is no food. There is no water. There is no greenery or anything suitable for him.

Perhaps he is hoping to hitch a ride with someone? I doubt it.

He flapped his wings and went somewhere around the city.

Somewhere where he may find food to eat. And a place to safely rest his foot.

Oh, what an amazing thing it would be to join some of these birds on their aerial adventures!

This one here, that one there.

He flapped his wings and went across the parking lot.

He flapped his wings and went to the clouds.

He flapped his wings and went across the sun-glittered creek.

He flapped his wings and went across the grassy fields.

He flapped his wings and blended into into the forest.

He flapped his wings while the sun was shining brightly.

He flapped his wings and the people watched.

He flapped his wings and went home to rest for another time.

Rain

The ground is dry

The skies are mostly clear

People and animals are moving about their ways

The plants are wondering when the rain will come

2 hours pass, and clouds form in the sky

Some get ready to take shelter

Others excitedly wait for it to fall

The rain falls

The plants drink

Some people watch it indoors

Others walk or even play in it outdoors

The creeks, rivers, and lakes expand and sing

Rain
